JCCC Kendo ‘Zekken’:

 

 

1.  WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE KENDO ‘ZEKKEN’?

 

• The purpose of your Kendo ‘Zekken’ or ‘Nafuda’ or ‘Tare Marker’ is to identify you and the club or dojo that you are affiliated with.

• It is important that your ‘Zekken’ (‘Tare’ marker) is in good condition and consistent with the zekken of all other club or dojo members.

• It is poor etiquette to not wear a ‘zekken’ or identify yourself when wearing bogu.

2.  WHO ORDERS ‘ZEKKEN’?

• New ‘zekken’ are ordered by:  

• Bogu members to the JCCC Kendo Club

• Existing junior JCCC Kendo bogu members that have outgrown their junior bogu and have purchased adult size bogu and require a larger ‘zekken’.

• Existing JCCC Kendo members with old and/or tattered ‘zekken’ that should be replaced.

3.  HOW ARE ‘ZEKKEN’ ORDERED?

• JCCC Kendo Club order ‘Zekken’ from “Kendo Zekken” (kendozekken.com) in Buffalo, USA as they manufacture high quality and proper Kendo ‘zekken’.

• Members are to get approval from the Head Instructor (and to avoid potential duplation of names within the same dojo)

• Once approval is received, please go to  http://kendozekken.com/dojo-zekkens/j-c-c-c-kendo-club/ to understand your options and directly purchase the proper size zekken for your bogu.

• Members are to independently order and pay for their ‘zekken’ and applicable shipping charges.

• Sometimes, there are large coordinated orders that can reduce or eliminate delivery charges.

4.  THINGS TO FACTOR WHEN ORDERING ‘ZEKKEN’:

      NAME on ZEKKEN:

      All names are to be in full CAPS (some exceptions).

      If there are multiple members with the same family name, the more senior family member generally uses the family name only and the other              less senior members add an initial. 

• Eg. Last name: SMITH

• Most senior member would have “SMITH” on his “zekken”.  His daughter would have “G.SMITH” and a junior member from a different family with the same last surname would have “J.SMITH”.

5.  PRESENTATION OF ‘ZEKKEN’:

• In cases where you directly order your ‘zekken’ and it is delivered directly to you, please inform the Head Instructor so we can arrange formal presentation (unless it is a replacement JCCC ‘zekken’).

• In a case where the ‘zekken’ are part of one large order to be delivered directly to the JCCC, we will inform you when it arrives and will arrange the formal presentation if needed.
